| | He was a Veteran of Iraq/Afghanistan. Among the first troops to arrive in New Orleans in the aftermath of Katrina.
A newlywed, only 2 months married the day he was hired on as one of my delivery drivers at Grace between 2 and 3 months ago... his 90-day evaluation coming up pretty quick.
A guitarist, and fan of the Guitar Hero games, and mostly rock music. After Krystle bought me Guitar Hero 3, it became one of our main topics of conversation. Some days I loaned him my mp3 player so he'd have some music to listen to when he was on the road. The vehicle he was in most often was our '06 Ranger, the radio was ripped out before being sold to us. We had a couple interesting conversations about the music I kept on the thing. Less than 2 weeks ago, when we finally got a stereo installed in the truck, he was beyond thrilled.
When he accidentally stumbled onto clues betraying the Christmas gift his wife had picked out for him, I knew about it. He didn't just tell me about it, he brought it back up several times. He was extremely excited about it.
Shaun and I were becoming good friends... The friends I have in Tahlequah are mostly college students I know through Krystle, and I've never really been able to hang out with or see them on a regular basis, and Shaun was becoming the first that didn't fit that mold. Last week, he gave Krystle and me an open invitation to come over sometime. I had planned to invite him to my most recent movie day, but he had drill duty, and wouldn't be able to come. He and I were kinda unique to our workplace. Every guy at work besides the two of us were avid hunters and/or sports fans. That's 2 out of 8 guys.
We were needing to get ahead on deliveries since we were planning on having the 25th and 26th off, as well as the 1st and 2nd. So yesterday, I had gotten up early to run the longest route myself since I hadn't realized it's length until it was too late to offer it to the other drivers. My 2nd stop was in Purcell, south of Oklahoma City. On my way back, I was cutting as close to straight east as I could to get to Hartshorne, and got a call from work saying to pray for him cuz we'd gotten a call from a FedEx guy that his truck was in a bad wreck. About 5 phone calls later, I was passing through McAlester, and got a call from a guy at work. Route's over, come home.
Shaun died in the wreck.
I only knew him for a couple months, but I really am gonna miss him.
